My Musical Influences
My first musical influence was my Mother. Born too poor to take lessons when she was a child, she was determined that her children have music in their lives. Without her and my Dad, those lessons would never have been possible.
My first piano teacher, Mrs. Lelia Benningfield, was talented, dedicated and supportive. She taught me for twelve years. I entered Guild Auditions all twelve years of piano. At Texas Tech, various professors influenced my decision to focus on music as a career and as a hobby.

Dear Mrs. Uselton, I can't believe that this is my last lesson with you. I couldn't ask for a better teacher! Don't worry, it won't be my last time to play the piano! I love you so much! (Kimberly was moving to Tennessee)

I will cherish all of the lessons and recitals we've had, and only remember you as the kindest and most-caring person I will ever know in my lifetime. You have seemed to be more than my piano teacher and more a member of my family. I will miss you!
