About Me
Yvonne Ho-Massey is a private and group piano instructor for beginning piano to advanced levels and has been teaching since 2005. Her teaching style focuses on music literacy, piano technique, and theory. Yvonne incorporates an interactive approach to introducing musical concepts to children. Interactive activities such as listening, singing, and movement are used for introducing and reviewing music concepts.
Yvonne is a dedicated music educator and currently operates a thriving piano studio in San Mateo, CA. She also teaches beginning group piano and group pre-school music classes at Beresford Recreation Center, San Mateo, CA. She is a board member of the Music Teacher's Association of California, San Mateo Branch, and holds the position of Recital Hall Director.
My Musical Education Background
In 2011, Yvonne joined the Music for Young Children family and is a certified Sunrise and MYC Teacher. She holds a masters degree (M.M) in Piano Pedagogy from Notre Dame de Namur University (2008). She has completed her Kodály training Level I from the Summer Certificate Program at the Kodály Institute at Holy Names University in 2006, which emphasizes music literacy, strong choral programs, and singing-based curriculum. In 2005, she achieved the Grade 8 Diploma, the highest level of examination for both music theory and practical piano from the Royal Schools of Music, London (ABRSM).
As an undergraduate at UCD, Yvonne participated in the University choir. Before entering college, Yvonne was involved in a number of music productions as a violist in the high school orchestra. She has also earned respectable titles from Cresmont Conservatory of Music piano competitions. She has also been a church pianist and accompanist.
Yvonne strongly believes in continuing education. She continues to study piano with her university professor and regularly attends music teachers conferences and workshops at conventions.
