About Me
I am a Yamaha Performing Artist who has made it her mission to help Band and orchestral flute students play at their best. I teach students of all ages and performance levels, and help them improve using my time-tested techniques so that they may become the best flutist they can be, whether they want to be a soloist, play in a band, an orchestra, or just for their own enrichment. I believe that learning should be fun as well as effective, and I approach each student with kindness, humility, and concern for their progress. No student should ever be made to feel anything but better about themselves, and that is my ultimate goal. My students attend a diverse set of wonderful schools having received scholarships from Vanderbilt to UCLA and many have been accepted at the top conservatories such as New England Conservatory of Music and Carnegie Mellon. Several of my students have won local, state and national competitions such as CBDA All-State, NAfME, and the NFA Young Artist Competition.
I have been successfully helping flute students attain their goals for over 20 years, and my students have achieved great success, having won many local, national and international competitions, scholarships, Band and Orchestral seats in groups of every size and performance level. My techniques are not only published in bestselling books, but they are also published in articles, videos, and have been presented to great acclaim at schools, Universities, music conventions, and music conferences nationwide, as well as both on my publishers' website and my own. Since 2002 I have taught lessons in person from my multiple studios near Visalia, or in Bakersfield California, or online.
I have been a Yamaha Performing Flute/Piccolo Artist and Clinician for 15 years performing extensively on flute, piccolo, alto flute and bass flute around the world and have been helping Flutists of all ages and at all performance levels - from beginner to advanced - nationwide. I am a dedicated soloist, chamber musician, flute clinician, author and adjudicator for local, national and international competitions, and I am the Flute Professor and Artist in Residence at both the College of the Sequoias and Bakersfield College.
Besides enjoying a successful solo and chamber music career I have held first chair positions with several orchestras. I have soloed with major orchestras and performed on radio, television, and even played in Disney films. I am the Artistic Director/Founder of the "Tracy Harris Flute Boot Clinics” which has helped over 1000 underserved flutists a year for the past 14 years. I am a bestselling author having written three books published by Wingert-Jones/JW Pepper: “The Flute Boot Camp Manual-A Universal Guide to Flute" (Recipient of the Editor's Choice award), "The Lyric Flutist" and “Picc Perfect”.
I have presented nationally at NAFME, TMEA, NYSSMA, NFA, SCSBOA, CASMEC and many more music education conferences and conventions. I have judged local, state and international soloist competitions as well as band and orchestral competitions for over 10 years for organizations such as CBDA, CMEA, and TKMEA.
