About Me
I have been playing the violin for 20 years and have been involved in music all my life in a variety of capacities - in youth and college orchestra, children’s and then Renaissance choir, gigging, participating in music festivals and camps, and touring abroad with orchestras. I graduated from the University of St. Thomas MN with a major in Violin Performance in 2021, and spent 3 months studying music, art and education in Vienna, Austria in early 2020 (before the pandemic). Outside of teaching, I perform actively in the Greensboro area, primarily at my church as a violinist and choral singer, and with my folk/fusion band, Sylvan Strings. Outside of music I love to cook, read, and spend time with my husband and daughter.
My Musical Education Background
I have been teaching for over 7 years and have taught primarily violin lessons with a sprinkling of viola, orchestra, chamber music, piano, English as a second language, and reading. I have a huge academic interest in musicians’ health & human performance and have given workshops in university settings and to youth orchestras on health in the music industry.
I am committed to becoming the best teacher I can be and am always looking for ways to improve. I have studied the Paul Rolland method of violin pedagogy and plan to enroll in Suzuki courses this spring. I continue lessons with musicians around the country and attend conferences, workshops and festivals to hone my teaching and performance skills.
My goals as a teacher are to help you develop your creativity, curiosity and well-being through our lessons together. I really emphasize a holistic approach to teaching, where I include a variety of disciplines and skills. I want you to be a well-rounded musician and individual, so I’m not just teaching you how to play the instrument, but also music skills like music theory, history, ear training
And life skills like learning how to teach yourself, discipline and curiosity.
My lessons center on classical training as a base, but also incorporates other styles to give you a wide repertoire of pieces you’re able to play and makes lessons even more fun! You will have the chance to pick out pieces you want to play (with my guidance) and make your learning your own.
