About Me
Have an upcoming audition or performance? Just want to improve your voice? Always wanted to play piano by ear or read music? Let me help! I've been teaching private lessons, choir, general music, world music, and music theory since 2004. I take great care in developing healthy technique and solid musicianship skills in students of all ages and skill levels. My goal is to share my passion for music with my students so that they may know the same joy I have known.
I hold a FREE initial consultation with new students (and parents/guardians) before beginning lessons to ensure that we all have the same goals and expectations from the start.

PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS
Piano lessons are tailored to the desires of the student. Young beginners will participate in a variety of gross-motor skill activities designed to build an understanding of meter and rhythm, and to develop hand-eye coordination in preparation for reading notes on a staff. Lessons may also include: music literacy (reading and transcribing notes and rhythms), ear training (playing by ear), theory practice, technical exercises (building coordination, flexibility, and velocity), improvisation and composition, historically and culturally accurate interpretation of repertoire, and music theory.
PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS
My goal as a teacher is to help each student discover his or her own healthiest, loveliest, and most authentic sound, while providing many opportunities and resources for growth as a complete musician. We draw on a variety of practices, including Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method, Estill Figures, and more!
SINGER'S CIRCLE (Adult Group Class)
This group class is a warm and friendly place to ask all the questions you've always wanted to ask about singing... Why do my high notes sound squeaky? Why do I run out of breath when I'm nervous? Is belting really bad for my voice? Where am I supposed to change to head voice? How do I know if I'm a soprano or an alto? Is soda really bad for singers? Why does my "ah" vowel feel so out-of-control? How come I can hit this high note in practice, but not on stage? (Betcha have lots of questions to add to our list!) Drawing on the research and methods of Estill, Feldenkrais, and Alexander, we explore the inner workings of our own unique instruments. Singing is a full-body experience, and we dive into the connections between all parts of our breathing and phonation systems as well as our posture and movement. We apply what we've learned to our favorite songs and most challenging pieces.

TESTIMONIALS
I find myself so incredibly awed by your spirit and enthusiasm. I love the singing. I love the new friends I'm making. I love all the crazy physiology and psychology I learn. But the graceful, playful, forgiving space you create every week is such a gift. I am so grateful. --David (adult student)
Jessica made both the All County and All State Choruses... You are a good musician with a lovely voice, and also a good role model. We appreciate your cheerfulness, enthusiasm, patience, and humor. --Jennifer, parent of student (middle school)
I just got a call from Rachel. She got a lead in Urine Town!!!! (the only sophomore) She is very excited. Thanks for all your work with her. --Susan, parent of student (high school)
