About Me
I am a classically trained pianist having taught lessons for 15 years. I have taught students of all ages and skill levels both online and in-person. I am also an active accompanist, recording artist, and composer, having performed with numerous ensembles including the Rochester Symphony Orchestra, and both the Oakland University and Wayne State University Symphony Orchestras. My passion is helping my students find their own passion for music and discover their unique connection to the art itself.
My Musical Education Background
I've studied piano performance for 23 years and earned full scholarships for both my undergraduate and masters degrees. I received my bachelor's degree from Oakland University and in 2017, I received my master's degree in piano performance from Wayne State University, where I studied under Robert Conway, resident pianist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I am classically trained but am able to teach nearly any genre, such as new age or jazz, or any subject such as music theory and composition.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I teach students ages 5 and up. For online lessons, I recommend parents accompany children under the age of 7 to help maintain focus and direction.
My Certifications and Awards
I've won many contests including the 2016 Wayne State University Concerto Competition, the 2014 Oakland University Concerto Competition, the 2014 MaTilDa Award for Outstanding Piano Performance, the piano division of the 2014 FUMC Birmingham Young Artist Concert Series, and the 2013 Mu Phi Epsilon Detroit Chapter Salon Scholarship. I have received several perfect scores from the Michigan Federation of Music and a nomination to the MSBOA Michigan Youth Arts Festival. I have performed at the David Daniels Young Artist Concert and many musicals, theatrical events and more. Most recently, I was a semi-finalist in the national 2016-17 American Prize in Piano Performance / Lorin Hollander Award. I play Rachmaninoff, Ligeti, Liszt, Chopin and more from original scores. My ambition is to compose music and game scores, and to perform my music on stage. You can witness many of my performances on Youtube under "Alexander Kopitz".
